Ovchinnikov Nikolay Vasilyevich

Studied at the Art-Engraving College in Alatyr (1934-1937), at the preparatory classes of the Academy of Arts (1937-1939) in Leningrad, at the I. E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad (1939, 1945- 1951), workshop of R. R. Frents, received a Lenin grant, finished his post-graduate studies there (1951-1954), creative workshop of A. M. Gerasimov; PhD in Art History (1954). Student at the University of Culture (1971) in Egere (Hungary).

Teacher at the I. Ya.Yakovlev Chuvash State Pedagogic Institute and founder of the Art- Engraving school; Chairholder (1960), Assistant Professor (from 1966 on), Professor of the Painting Department (1973). Chairman of the board of the Artists’ Union of Chuvashiya (1961 -1967, 1970-1979, 1980-1985). People’s Artist of the Chuvash ASSR (1968), People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1984), fully-fledged member of the Academy of Science and Fine Arts of the Chuvash Republic (1995). Was awarded the K.V. Ivanov State Prize (1975). Received the Gold medal of the National Academy of Science and Fine Arts of the Chuvash Republic (2002). Veteran of the Soviet-Finnish and the Second World War (1939-1945). One of the initiators of the art exhibitions “Great Volga River”.
