Went to the front in 1942 as a volunteer. Fought near Oryol and Kursk, took part in military operations in Belarus and Poland, was in Berlin at the end of the war. Was awarded two Red Star orders (1945), three classes of the order of Glory (1944) and the medals: “For the capture of Konigsberg” (1945), “For the capture of Berlin” (1945). In 1946 V.A. Zoteev was discharged.

Graduated from the Arts and Crafts College in Nizhniy Tagil (1952). Lived in Miass, Chelyabinskaya Province, after graduation, worked as a teacher of Drawing and Drafting at the Secondary School and the School of the Working Youth, and also taught at an Art Studio. Moved to Barnaul in 1967. Member of the Artsts’ Union of the USSR (1980). Took part in exhibitions from 1958 on. Was in charge of the regional Club of Lovers of Painting “Artist” at the Barnaul Pedagogic University for more than 20 years.

Travelled much: went to the Subpolar and Polar Urals (1960, 1966), worked in a geological expedition in Yakutiya for half a year (1961), travelled on the Kola Peninsula, to the Khibiny, the White and the Barents Sea (1962, 1964), drifted on the rivers of Bashkiriya more than once (1963-1964), was in the Altay Mountains several times (1969-1972), undertook two creative journeys to Kolyma (1981-1982).
