Moiseenko, Evsey Evseevich
Studied at the Moscow University of Arts and Crafts (1931-1935), at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1936-1947) with I. I. Brodsky and A. A. Osmerkin. Veteran of the Second World War, joined the people’s militia as a volunteer; was in the concentration camp of Altengrabow from September, 1941 to April, 1945, joined the 3rd Horse-Guards Regiment after liberation in May 1945. Lived in Leningrad (from 1936 on). Member of the Leningrad Soviet Artists’ Union (from 1947 on; Secretary of the board of the Artists’ Union of the USSR – 1973-1988). Taught at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR (1958-1988; was in charge of the personal workshop of battle painting); Professor (1963). Took part in exhibitions (from 1948 on). Was awarded the Silver medal of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR (1962), corresponding member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR (1962), Distinguished Artist of the RSFSR (1963), People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1965). Was awarded the I. E. Repin State Award of the RSFSR (1966), the M. B. Grekov Gold medal (1970), People’s Artist of the USSR (1970), fully-fledged member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR (1973), was awarded the Lenin Prize (1974), and the State Prize of the USSR (1983). In 2007 the E. E. Moiseenko Picture Gallery was opened in Gomel.
